Co-injection molded packaging or substituted metal packaging

[Chinese Packaging News] Co-injection molded packaging can replace traditional metal packaging and enter the market of billions of cans per year. Milacron will exhibit a plastic food can called Klear, which has a clear view of the food in the transparent can. Regarding Klear, Milacron will exhibit a complete production line and see the internal barrier of the container.

Milacron will exhibit a plastic food can called Klear, which has a clear view of the food in the transparent can. "You can see the color of the food inside without opening it," said Russell Bennett, sales and marketing director of Milacron's co-injection system.
At the Interpack trade show in Germany 10 months ago, Milacron showed Klear samples. In this NPE, Milacron will produce Klear on site for the first time. Bennett said: "About Klear, we will exhibit a complete production line, and you can see the internal barrier layer of the container.

This line of injection molding machines has 280 tons of clamping force, and the four-cavity mold produces Klear cans with a running cycle of less than 8 seconds. Cold molds are provided by StackTeck Systems, Inc. The hot runner manufacturer Master and the formwork and component supplier DME are subsidiaries of Miraklon.
Milacron co-injection system vice president and new product development engineer Steve - Morris said: "Product diversity has laid the foundation for the company, we have a professional team to meet all customer needs, technically and economically." Metal cans are a very attractive market and consume about 5 billion cans annually.
Klear can be used on conventional metal filling equipment. The plastic cans have the integrity of double seams, allowing the raised edges of the cans to receive the traditional can lids.
Klear's life span is two to three years and it can fully meet the market demand for packaged foods. The barrier layer is 360 degrees around the can, including the base to the flange, and its thickness is less than 0.001 inches. Milacron launched 20,000 Klear cans in Massachusetts for premarket evaluation surveys. There are currently seven major brands that are investigating the impact of new cans on food and pet food.
At present, Milacron has successfully manufactured 90 barrier injection molding machines, 70 of which are used to produce PET containers. Applications include preforms, thin-walled packaging, medical products, and more. The company will also launch its new logo and comprehensive product at the show.
