Phototypesetter and other equipment - the choice of CTP

It is common for medium or large commercial printers to adopt new CTP equipment. But if it is a smaller printing company, should it invest in the purchase of thermal, UV, or UV platesetters? And what if the company's digital press does not match the printing plate?

Don't worry - here's a CTP solution that suits you. Fast printers can choose the following equipment: improved graphic recorders; dual-use or hybrid graphic recorders, which can output images to film or polyester plates; can handle polyester versions And plate-making platesetters and desktop-based toner-based platesetters.

Polyester CTP technology has a long history - the polyester version was first introduced in the 1980s, and there are several types of metal plates.

At the Drupa International Printing Fair, the unexpected appearance of a small format press increased the use of polyester plates. Many new graphic recorders can handle film and also process polyester. New or improved small format printers are equipped with plate-fitting equipment specially designed for handling metal plates and polyester plates. The polyester version currently used in four-color printing presses has shown great potential.

The new product, Hamada, introduced the B452 (20.47 x 14.38 inch) four-color long-length open-text printing machine, which is equipped with a DP-platemaking machine from Purup-Eskofot. It is said that this combination can produce 175-line plates to be printed, which is conducive to the production of short-lived plates. The plate-making only takes 8 minutes to prepare.

At Drupa Expo, Purup-Eskofot announced that it has improved the speed of DPX polyester platesetter rotators to 30,000 rpm - now the device can output 22 plates of 16.1 x 21.6 inches per hour. DPX can output both long and horizontal page versions and can easily switch between the two.

Purup also launched the Dot Mate 5080, which also incorporates Scanview's technology. Dot Mate can output at a speed of 45 plates per hour with 900 dpi lines; the plate size can reach 14 x 20 inches.

Heidelberg slogans "Quick Printing Solutions" and introduced the Quicksetter platesetter to produce plates for the Printmaster QR 46 and Printmaster GTO presses.

The Quicksetter 350 can produce 14-inch wide plates, while the 400-type image has a width of 16 inches. The Model 460 can produce wide-format, four-open polyester plates up to 18 inches. Various plate punching options are available for installation in the machine.

Xante introduced another device for the QM 46. Their Platemaker3, a development-free laser platemaking machine, can now print plates up to 13 x 35.5 inches in size. The output product has a resolution of 1200×1200 dpi and can be upgraded to 2400×2400 dpi.

There are also many options for producing polyester plates in Graph Expo equipment. Printware has introduced the PlateStream-SC device, which produces 13.3 x 22-inch plates, which can be used on off-press printers. The device can produce plates at a resolution of 2400 dpi, a screen of 175 lines, and a speed of 40 sheets per hour. Printware also introduced the high-speed PlateStream 34 and wide-format PlateStream 46 for folio and four-sided banner printing.

RIPit's Graph Expo high-light series includes the Speed-Setter 400, a horizontal web platemaking machine with a plate width of 15.75 x 20.25 inches. The maximum resolution of production can reach 4000dpi; and the plate can reach 175lpi, and the production film can reach 225lpi.

Monotype Systems has introduced the Ultara 34/P device, which can produce a polyester version or film with a maximum size of 13.3 x 32 inches for a split press. The device can support ten standard resolutions below 3048dpi.

Smaller investment CTP
Why is the polyester version so popular? To some extent it is an economical and flexible way to digitize factories and workshops. The polyester version is cheaper than a metal plate, the number of prints can reach 20,000, and it is suitable for many kinds of plate makers.

Many fast printing companies reported that their investment in CTP has yielded tremendous benefits in terms of productivity and product quality. Now customers have higher expectations for products than ever before. Small print shops now have the ability to print high-resolution halftone dots, print screens, and process color calibration. Through the adoption of CTP technology, Quickprint has found a future direction of development.
