Consumers don't need to "talk about formaldehyde"

Recently, the controversial sound reproduction network on the formaldehyde emission standard of sheet materials. Some media reports said that the "zero release" standard for formaldehyde in the household industry is unclear and controversial; regardless of the standard plate, formaldehyde will continue to be released, which will pose a great potential hazard to consumers' health. Is the E0 and E1 grade plates, which were once regarded as important standards in the home furnishing industry, only a false propaganda gimmick? To this end, the reporter turned to the line of the forest industry association professor-level high-tech Fang Chongrong.

Professor Fang is a senior expert in the Forest Products Industry Association. In the face of reporters' doubts about the E0 standard, Professor Fang said that the plate is actually unable to achieve true "zero formaldehyde", even pure natural wood products can not be done. The E0 grade plate generally mentioned in the industry is an enterprise standard implemented on the national standard. It achieves strict control on the amount of formaldehyde released and reduces the harm to the human body.

In response to the release of formaldehyde, China has enacted the mandatory standard of GB18580-2001 "Formaldehyde Decoration for Indoor Decoration Materials and Its Products", and scientifically and systematically classified the environmental standards of the plates. At present, the "E0" of plywood, blockboard and veneered panels has clear national standards. In recent years, with the improvement of technology and from the perspective of marketing, some companies have introduced the concept of “E0” in the concept of particleboard. However, at present, there is no mandatory national standard for “E0” in particleboard. When the industry is not prosperous, in order to create marketing highlights, companies may amplify the connotation of this concept.

In the face of reporters' consultation on "F4 star" plates and "E0" grade plates, Professor Fang said that the two standards are theoretically different. European standards usually use E1 plates (formaldehyde emission is less than 8.0mg/100g plates), while in China's current national standards, only plywood, blockboard and decorative veneer veneer panels have provisions for "E0" grade plates. That is, the formaldehyde release limit is ≤0.5mg/L; for the particleboard and medium-high density fiberboard products, there is no concept of “E0” grade. The F4 star standard is the Japanese standard, the average formaldehyde release limit is ≤0.3mg/L, and the maximum value is ≤0.4mg/L. So to a certain extent, the environmental protection of F4 stars is stricter than the E0 grade plates specified in China.

It can be confirmed that under certain technical conditions, for example, the process of veneering and sealing of the particle board can achieve the minimum amount of formaldehyde emission; the harm of the consumer to formaldehyde should not be "talking to the tiger", as long as it is in E1. The plates within the standard are safe.
