Service life-an important quality index of printed materials

An important quality index of printed materials is service life, which is more prominent in durable materials such as PS plates, blankets, and rubber rollers. The procurement cost and service life of materials in a certain period are inversely proportional. The use of high-quality printed materials not only improves the efficiency of use and the quality of printed matter, but more importantly, it extends the service life and reduces the loss of downtime. The impact of service life on the cost of materials is very obvious. Compared with a PS version that can print 60,000 copies and 120,000 copies, the difference is intuitive and easy to calculate, and it also has the benefits of improved printing quality. A qualified material buyer or manager must consider the service life of the material together with the price.

Experience tells us that the service life and sales price of materials are not increased at a ratio of 1: 1, most of them are due to the price growth rate is lower than the life extension rate. Only when the quality is improved to a certain extent, there will be a separate price increase, and no longer involves the increase in service life. At this time there must be a principle, if the price growth is slower than the increase in service life, then you should choose better quality materials. But most buyers and even decision makers do not have a good grasp of the service life of materials. They are often neither printing technicians nor technicians, and often prefer to accept the opinions of suppliers rather than listening to the views of front-line workers. Of course, there is also the problem of insufficient data management. Although some companies record and summarize the service life data of various materials, they have not formed a set of valuable data system.

It is necessary to discuss the technical relationship between material life and sales price. The main factors affecting the service life of printed materials are aging and damage, and these two aspects are closely related to the selection of raw materials and the production and processing technology during the production of materials. If the raw materials are selected well, the processing technology is good, the corresponding printing process characteristics will be good, and the service life will be extended accordingly. From the perspective of the price structure of raw materials, whether it is a chemical raw material or a metal raw material, its entry price is often determined, and the price change caused by the production process has become the main factor for the price change of raw materials with quality. Taking the PS version as an example, most of the aluminum plates and sensitizers used are priced by weight, and the reprocessing technology after the raw materials enter the factory will be very different. This becomes the main factor that causes the price of the final product to change. Therefore, the service life of the product will not increase at the same speed as the cost.

The price of a product is sometimes related to the amount of its main ingredients. Low-cost products are necessarily low-cost, and the best way to lower costs is to reduce the amount of raw materials, which often directly affects their service life. Taking the PS version for newspaper industry as an example, the printing machine is designed with a thickness of 0.30mm, and the minimum is 0.28mm. Some domestic PS versions have a nominal thickness of 0.28mm and a large downward tolerance; while imported PS versions have a nominal thickness of 0.30mm and a small downward tolerance. The thickness of the low-cost PS plate is lower than the tolerance requirement, which will cause insufficient pressure during printing. The solution is to increase the amount of blanket liner, which leads to the inconsistency of the linear speed of the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder, which accelerates the wear of the plate . Although it saves aluminum material and lowers the sales price, the durability is much worse, and in some cases it can even be doubled.

As more and more social capital is involved in the production of printed materials, the quality of printed materials has undergone a large degree of differentiation, and the phenomenon of differentiation in service life has also become prominent. Therefore, when purchasing materials, it is necessary to pay attention to the relationship between the service life and the price, and to obtain the lowest material cost. Of course, material procurement must also be combined with production needs, nor can we blindly pursue service life. For example, for a product with a small printing volume, it is meaningless to have a high printing durability. For a printing with a large printing quantity, the material cost change caused by the printing durability must be considered.
