Metal container industry ushered in the development of the spring
Metal packaging is an important part of China's packaging industry. Its output value accounts for about 10% of the total output value of China's packaging industry. It mainly provides packaging services for food, canned food, beverages, oils, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. The rapid development of the metal container packaging industry, first of all thanks to the development of related industries, has resulted in a significant increase in product variety and output, and an increase in export volume. The rapid development of China’s economy has made China a market with huge potential. Market opportunities have on the one hand attracted foreign investors to come to China for cooperation and establishment of factories. On the other hand, relatively low “industry barriers” have also caused private enterprises involved in this area to Township industry increased.
According to statistics, in 2000, the total amount of major products in China's metal containers was 1.92 million tons, of which 7 billion aluminum two-piece cans, 3 cans of tinplate (including beverage cans and cans) were about 6 billion, and 600 million were aerosol cans. The entire industry reached its peak during the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" period. However, foreign investors have come a long way, and small township and small-scale enterprises and self-employed people blindly launched, coupled with the macro imbalance, resulting in oversupply of the market, the industry began to enter the trough in 1996. From 1996 to the end of 1999, the performance of most enterprises declined, and the loss of the industry continued to expand for four consecutive years. Many companies were in trouble and had to shut down and switch: Fujian Jianlian Group was restructured; Shanghai Jiaduobao, Guangzhou Meite, Tianjin Meite Has closed; United States Boll Group three tanks full withdrawal of the Chinese market, all three cans equipment auction. The same is true of the two aluminum cans. The production capacity of the 26 lines across the country reached 11 billion, but the market only needs about 7 billion, accounting for 63.64% of the production capacity. However, with China's accession to the WTO and changes in the market, the development of related industries at home and abroad will drive the industry to gradually bottom out. According to statistics, by the year 2000, the total output of the industry has increased from 1.43 million tons in 1996 to 1.92 million tons (including cold-rolled sheet steel barrels), and the metal packaging industry is recovering.
The problems in the metal packaging industry in China are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Repeated introduction, idle equipment, serious waste
2. Raw material supply and demand out of touch
3. Market disorder, low price competition
Since the 1990s, Germany, Japan, Britain, the United States, France and other countries have successfully developed coated iron that can completely replace tinplate. This is an epoch-making progress. Now developed countries have used ultra-thin steel plates with a thickness of 0.07-0.12mm to make barrels and cans, and cans made from alloyed aluminum plates have been able to be heated in microwave ovens.
In China, as the market flourishes, the varieties of metal barrels and cans are constantly being updated. Products are of different shapes and are more beautiful. Shanghai Baoyi Can Making Co., Ltd. has successfully produced two cans from special tinplates produced by Baosteel. In 1999, the production volume was 400 million, and in 2000 it reached 800 million. In addition, the sealing lid used in food cans has been replaced with a large-opening easy-to-open lid and a swing-open lid, which solves the difficult problem of “difficult to eat and can’t open”. The use of secondary cold rolling of tinplate to produce vacuum safety covers is also a new technology. China currently produces tinplates with a thickness of 0.17-0.28mm. Existing tinplate manufacturers are developing ultra-thin and high-strength tinplates, but it will take some time and introduce equipment technology.
The entire industry should have a sense of urgency to join the WTO. The top priority is to accelerate the establishment of domestic brand-name products. At the same time, based on leading enterprises, the company organizes enterprise groups and adopts methods of joining and loosely combining or strong cooperation to enhance the competitiveness of domestic metal container packaging companies.
Second, consolidate existing brand-name products. At present, the two-piece cans, three-piece cans and aerosol cans produced in China have reached the level of international products of similar quality in most two-piece cans, three-piece cans and aerosol cans. For example, the quality of metal printing of Hangzhou Zhongliang Meite has become a leading position in the printing iron industry. In the future, we should also promote ISO 9000 international quality certification as soon as possible on the basis of reaching the international level so as to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic metal container packaging companies in the international market.
Third, we should attach equal importance to the competition of talents as well as the emphasis on product competition. Without high-quality talent, it is difficult to improve product quality and implement scientific enterprise management. Therefore, we must speed up the introduction of talents, while at the same time adopting short-term training and higher education at the same time to improve the overall quality of employees in the industry.
