Million deep colony instrument (fifth generation) with constant change, fool-type one-button 6-plate automatic colony counting

First, the question is raised:

When it comes to colony microbial counting—whether using pour plate, spread plate, spiral plating, or membrane filtration methods, as well as 3M test strips—there's a natural diversity in growth characteristics. Traditional automatic colony counters require users to adjust targeted parameters for optimal results. However, many users lack a deep understanding of these settings, leading to confusion and misapplication. This often results in the automatic colony counter being underutilized, or even just a display on the desk. This issue is quite common and can be verified through a small survey across different users.

Wanshen Detection Technology has identified this key challenge and successfully developed an innovative fifth-generation technology that enables fool-proof one-button automatic counting for up to six plates at once. Similar to how the term "fifth-generation fighter" implies advanced intelligence, Wanshen’s colony counter also represents a new level of smart automation. To validate the effectiveness of this breakthrough, the system was tested using mobile phone photos taken in regular lighting conditions. The evaluation included various methods such as pour plate, spread plate, spiral plating, membrane filtration, and 3M test strips, including flower-shaped mold colonies. It also supported different colors, sizes, and grid lines on paper media or filters.

Second, the specific solution:

The fifth-generation Wanshen HiCC automatic colony counting software introduces five key innovations:

1. Intelligent Colony Automatic Enhancement Technology: The core of efficient automatic colony counting lies in distinguishing between colony targets and non-colony backgrounds. Creating a highly uniform lighting environment is one way to achieve this. For instance, scanning imaging provides illumination uniformity that far exceeds any existing light box photography, making it easier to perform one-button automatic counting. Additionally, the intelligent enhancement technology automatically corrects images taken under normal lighting conditions, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

2. Fast Level Set Active Contour Extraction Technology: In complex colony growth scenarios, the color difference between colonies and the background may be minimal, making traditional segmentation techniques ineffective. Wanshen’s fast level set active contour extraction technology efficiently identifies and extracts difficult colonies at high speed, enabling automatic classification by color and size. It also records user operations for batch processing, achieving a foolproof one-button counting experience. The results of the one-button counting and marking of mobile phone photos are shown in Figures 3 and 4.

3. No Trace Elimination of Grid and Text: Grid lines on paper media or filters can interfere with colony recognition. Wanshen’s seamless elimination technology removes these interferences without leaving traces, as shown in Figure 4B.

4. Auto-Segmentation Counting for Bacillus Morphology: Traditional counting relies on circular segmentation, which is not suitable for long rod-shaped bacteria. Wanshen Smartdownâ„¢ technology accurately counts both round colonies and bacilli under the microscope. The results of counting Gram-negative bacilli are shown in Figure 5 below.

5. High-Resolution Auto-Focus Imaging: Whether using a scanner, Canon EOS SLR, or a smartphone, the system eliminates the need for manual focusing. The image quality achieved with these devices is shown in the following images.

Third, the video demonstration of the highly challenging automatic colony counting process:

To provide a clearer understanding of Wanshen’s superior technology, here are two example videos:

2) Wanshen HiCC automatic counting video of cell phone photo shoots: Watch Here

All manufacturers are welcome to send their images for a technology comparison, and all users are encouraged to submit their samples for real-world evaluation.

Fourth, the outlook:

From Wanshen HiCC (fifth generation) technology, it is clear that colony counting using mobile phone photos can now be fast and accurate. This demonstrates that Wanshen HiCC technology has significantly reduced the environmental requirements for colony imaging, paving the way for an era where low-cost, high-accuracy automatic colony counting becomes widely accessible without the need for specialized imaging equipment.
