Brief Description of Bill Coors Aluminum Cans Development

January 22, 2009 was the 50th anniversary of the application of aluminum cans to the beer and beverage industry in 1959 by Bill Coors and his Coors Brewing Company.

Aluminum cans replace the previously widely used tin cans that are prone to leaking and altering beer tastes, providing beer and beverages with a new form of packaging that protects product quality and flavor. This form of beer packaging also began an important sustainability practice in the beer market – recycling. Just after the introduction of the first aluminum can package, Coors immediately initiated the first recycling of aluminum cans in the United States.

Aluminum can be recycled and reused 100% because it retains all materials to the maximum extent possible. The use of recycled aluminum cans to make aluminum cans uses 95% less energy than using completely new materials.

Molson Coors Packaging and Recycling

Innovative packaging designs continue to play an important role in Molson Coors' environmental protection efforts, and it has led to a continuous reduction in the use of raw materials.

The packaging materials used by Molson Coors are also recyclable, lighter, and save on raw material usage and transportation costs. Today, 95% of by-products and waste from Molson Coors' wineries are recycled and reused.
