Laser copy wood grain technology saves wood costs

Researchers at the UK Innovation Center have recently invented a method of using lasers for medium-density fiberboard finishes, which can make the surface look like some extremely expensive tree species.

The team leader said that MDF is a good, widely used material that is easy to process and inexpensive. The use of lasers to produce wood grain on medium density fiberboard not only helps to bring a more natural quality effect to household and commercial fiberboard, but also saves the economic and environmental costs of having to use real thin wood. The technology can also be applied to floors or other places where cost considerations and aesthetics are important. This new laser technology with surface finishes can mimic a wide range of real wood textures, making signs, ornaments, and even colorful, various shapes of decorative surfaces.
