Backpacks are indispensable equipment for outdoor sports. You need a suitable backpack for both short trips and long-distance adventures.
There are various types of backpacks in the market from big to small. How do we choose?

In general, there are soft Softpacks/Day Packs, External Framed Packs, and Internal FramedPacks on the market. Which type of bag to buy is mainly to see what kind of activities you are usually passionate about.

A choice of the right backpack will become your most helpful assistant on your journey. Because she knows how to minimize the weight you need to carry, thus saving your energy. After the following steps, you will not only know how to choose a backpack that suits you, but also how to pack, carry, and maintain your backpack.

The basic type of backpack

Soft Case
Outer stand bag
Inner bracket package

1. Soft Packs/Day Packs:

The size of these backpacks is basically medium and small, and they don't have any brackets inside or outside. They don't have a good carrying system, just like the kind of backs you do when shopping.

advantage:

a Cheaper than large backpacks and easy to use;

b Lighter and smaller;

Disadvantages:

a For long distances, the capacity is too small;

b The simpler carrying system cannot bear a large load and is not comfortable to carry.

2. External Frame Backpacks:

Outer racks once used to dominate outdoor backpacks are now rare. Outside of this kind of bag there is an H-shaped metal frame, outside the box can be hanging photography, stoves and the like. This kind of backpack has a very strong external support, which plays a good supporting role between the backpack and your shoulders and hips. More evenly distributes weight between your shoulders and hips, making your life more comfortable. The backpack and carrying system (adjustable shoulder straps, belts, chest straps, etc.) are fixed on the frame of the backpack.

advantage:

a More comfortable walking on a smooth or difficult road;

b The internal capacity of the backpack is large, and most luggage can be placed in the bag. And there are intervals and side packages, making the storage of items more convenient;

c There is more space between the body and the backpack than inside the backpack. This allows better air convection between the body and the backpack, keeping it cooler and more comfortable.

d It is cheaper than an inner stand backpack of the same capacity.

Disadvantages:

a The size of the inner support backpack is larger and heavier than the same capacity.

b When the bag is fully loaded, the backpack has a higher center of gravity and is more dangerous in poor road conditions. Especially when you need to climb or ski.

3. Internal Frame Backpacks:

The interior rack bag now basically monopolizes the market for large backpacks, and many manufacturers also have their own skills in this area. This kind of backpack will move the bracket inside the backpack, making the bracket and backpack more closely integrated. It is also better to distribute the weight between your shoulders and your hips.

advantage:

a The backpack is more comfortable and close to the body, making the center of gravity more stable;

b More flexible and easier to balance than carrying backpacks;

c The more advanced exterior design makes the activity more comfortable, especially when it passes through narrow spaces;

d Bearers are very comfortable, especially those with adjustable backpack system.

Disadvantages:

a. There are only 1- or 2 compartments in most backpacks, and there are few side pockets, making it difficult to sort items (but now many backpacks can add outer packs);

b Since the storage space is narrow, it is more careful to put things. However, as long as careful and reasonable use, backpack life will be very long, and the older the more comfortable;

c Because the backpack is tightly integrated with the body, it is relatively hot and the air is not easily circulated. But now many manufacturers use a lot of high-tech synthetic materials on the piggyback system, which makes this problem better solved;

d The cost of the backpack will be higher than that of the outer stent. At present, the materials used for the backpack's brackets are often aluminum alloys, and some high-end backpacks even use titanium alloys as raw materials. Of course, their prices are also considerable. The shape of the stent is mostly long, but some higher-grade backpacks use a tubular design.

A good backpack is not only refreshing and refreshing, but more importantly, it can carry a lot of things, free hands, keep the balance of the body and make the trip safer and more comfortable. However, it is not so easy to find suitable suits for backpacks of various sizes. Follow the steps below to create some concepts about backpack selection in your mind that will allow you to walk safely and comfortably.

Step one: Think about the type of trip

The primary condition for determining a suitable backpack is to be able to cope with the type of activity being performed.

1. Length of travel days

2. The number of times used during the year

3. Types of exercise you engage in outdoors

4. What area will be explored

Step two: Decide the basic style of the backpack

The basic styles of backpacks are divided into "soft back packs", "outer racks", and "inner racks." For details, see the basic types of backpacks above.

Step 3: Determine the capacity of the backpack

The size or capacity of a backpack is generally measured in liters (L), and some countries are also accustomed to using cubic inches (CU IN) as a unit (1000 cubic inches or 16 litres).

45 litres or less: This capacity is suitable for use by ladies and for 1-2 days of camping and hiking in good weather. It can also be used as an activity or mountaineering package around the base camp.

50-70 liters: Supports longer trips and trekking in the spring, summer, and autumn seasons. It can be used to load tents and Other warm clothes and food. This capacity is more choice.

70-95 liters: If you are a man and buy only one package, you can choose from this range. This capacity can handle all the equipment needed for the winter and is also suitable for long distance, long travel.

95 liters or more: These huge monsters can cope with long-time outdoor activities and travels, especially winter adventures and snow-capped mountains adventure activities, but also suitable for delivery to the base camp materials.

Precautions:

1. Some gaps in the calculation of capacity between different manufacturers;

2. The size of the backpack to buy also considers the difference in height of each person. For example, a person with a shorter body is not suitable for carrying an extra large outer backpack.

Step 4: Consider the appearance and function of backpack design

Once you have decided on the correct style and size, it's time to compare the individual design differences between each backpack.

Ease of use:

Of course you need an easy-to-use backpack. Loading, taking and opening and closing should be very simple. And these often depend on:

(a) the number of intervals in the body of the backpack; (b) the design of the interval - divided before and after, divided up and down, or a combination of the two; (c) the number and location of pockets.

Feature:

At present, backpacks made by many manufacturers have a volume adjustment function, so that you can better use your backpack. Perhaps a 50 litre backpack can be adjusted to achieve a volume of 60 liters. Most backpacks of this type have 50L+ or 50L+10 on the label. This design should include: longer straps (smaller items that can be tightened within the bag); expandable enclosures (to cope with increased equipment on the way); plug-in points (more equipment can be placed outside the pack) ; Free detachable packet (daily bag).

Durability:

The use of backpacks is a time-tested, highly tortured and stressful test. It is important to find a lightweight, wear-resistant material! At the same time, whether the sewing thread is firm, zippered, and whether there is reinforcement treatment at the opening, whether the bottom of the backpack is reinforced with double layer treatment, and the contact points of the harness and the backpack are not sufficiently strong enough to be noticed.

Fabric selection:

Including the degree of wear, waterproof technology, fabric severity, anti-tearing, softness, and UV protection. (Tear-proof fabrics are mostly mesh-shaped; general backpacks do not have a waterproof function and need rain cover; wear-resistant materials are mostly used at the bottom of the backpack, where the ground and rocks are most exposed).

The HD number of fabrics used in backpacks is also an important index to measure the quality of backpacks. The number of HD shows the tightness of this kind of fabric weaving. Generally, the fabrics used in backpacks are mostly around 300--400HD, while the higher-grade fabrics use fabrics of 500HD or even 1000HD. At present, higher-grade backpacks will use DuPont's CORDURA fabric, which is a high-strength tear-proof product. Many manufacturers will use CORDURA to make the bottom, and it is more useful to make CORDURA for the entire backpack (such as several of BIG PACK's PERFORMIC series).

Suture strength:

Including the shoulder strap belt and the body of the suture, the cover and the body of the suture, the ring and the body of the suture, the suture between the fabric, the hanging tape and the body of the suture and so on. (The sutures in the key areas are generally multi-channel, multiple insurance).

Accessories selection:

Zippers, fasteners, closure cords, and nylon belts are all exquisite. The most popular good zipper is the Japanese YKK zipper, which is divided into domestic and domestic production. The best zipper is produced in Northern Europe. The quality of the fasteners is many, and DURAFLEX is the best. UTX-DURAFLEX is produced in Hong Kong. Among them are steel parts and nylon parts. Plastic parts have better feel, hardness and sound. Nylon pieces have better toughness and greater elasticity. Compression webbing is relatively big, good or bad in appearance can be seen at a glance, and now more used is the Hong Kong Sheng Kei ribbon, tight, solid, good appearance.

Waterproof:

Water resistance is not only related to the number of HD fabrics (the higher the HD number, the better the waterproofness), and more importantly, the waterproof coating inside the fabric. Nowadays, there are two kinds of PV and PU paints that are popular in the market. The performance of PU is better than that of PV. Of course, it will be more expensive, but it will be much better than pouring a pack of water.

Step 5: Try Back Backpack

When picking, it is best to carry a full package, rather than just look at an empty bag. Keep the back of the backpack as close to your back as possible, and the backpack will become part of your body. Take a few steps to see if it's comfortable. Try several different backpacks and learn how to adjust the straps and belts from the salesperson to pick the one that is most comfortable for you.

Note the following:

1. After carrying the backpack, check whether the inner arc and the back curve of the aluminum strip are consistent. If it is not, check whether the aluminum strip is bendable; if it can be bent, the aluminum strip will naturally bend into a curve that matches the back after using for a period of time. .

2. The backpack skeleton must be 2 to 4 inches above the shoulder, and the upper bag must not exceed 5 or 6 inches over the shoulder, otherwise a backpack will be selected.

3. When carrying the belt, the center point of the belt must be in the middle of the ischial bone, and the end of the waist gasket should not be too close to each other, and the part with no gasket can not rub the stomach, and do not choose a tight belt.

4. Adjust the shoulder strap fixing point. The curve of the shoulder strap should be close to the back of the bearer. The shoulder strap should be about 2-3 inches lower than the top of the shoulder, and both hands should grasp the end of the shoulder strap and the fist must be lower than the armpit.

5. The head cannot hit the top cover of the backpack and it cannot obstruct the helmet.

6. The chest strap must help the bearer overcome difficult terrain.
