Royal Special Forces Training Manual (Chapter 4)

Lifesaving shelter

Because of the purpose of selection,

There is no need to understand how to build an advanced bunker. However, it is advisable to know in advance how to build a basic life-saving shelter to prevent life-threatening situations when choosing a route. Although it is very bleak in many places in Breconbricks Mountain Range, there are still enough natural materials around to build a bunker, enough to protect the people inside from wind and rain.

One form of bunker that is most easily constructed is called "ready-to-live housing." A large depression on the ground, a cave, or a roof-shaped trunk broken off at an angle can be used as a temporary bunker. However, it is better to use existing natural conditions and artificially improve its protective performance on this basis. The basic principle is to use a recess or covered place, and then add further guards around it to complete the function. The simplest type of shelter is to use the exposed roots of fallen trees. The branches (coniferous branches are best) are held at an angle at the top of the tree roots and end on the ground. Put the branches close together, tie them together as much as possible, and cover the roof with the leaves and the tight bundles of grass.

Repeat this process until everything is protected (you can use the backpack as a door). Such bunkers can be built on any surface, including bushes, rock surfaces or dry stone walls.

If the ground is covered with a thick layer of snow, there is no naturally formed bunker. Digging a snow pit may be the fastest. Ditch a ditch slightly longer than your height, about 60 cm deep. If the excavated snow is a solid block, you can use them to make an angled roof on the ditch, that is, to top two snow blocks against each other and support each other. Or use branches to do the top. Then enter the bunker from one end of the bunker. First place something on the floor of the bunker to avoid direct contact with the cold snow. Make sure your spotlight is activated and the light on the rucksack is on the outside. Then drill into your life bag and wait until it is safe or rescue.

In a sense, it's best to keep yourself in an unobtrusive place and let the drill officer pay attention to you. If you want to highlight yourself through your own actions, you will be much more vulnerable under the observation of the sergeant. Remember, if you do everything that you are asked to do, it will be enough for you to pass the selection. The last point is to talk about your rifle: Special airline regiments belong to the quick reaction force. When they perform their mission, the guns are always on the way. At all times, make sure the gun is on hand, and make sure the gun is in good condition and ready to be checked. The special airline regiment had a story about a recruit who had taken a gun a few yards away when he fetched water from the lake. He was punished for doing 20 push-ups - at the bottom of the lake!

Let's look back at the point raised in the first chapter. Special air traffic missions do not need to be automated, but should be able to think, work hard, and energetic personnel. They should be able to respond well to commands, but there must be effective knowledge to effectively interpret these commands. If you pass the selection, then you have more opportunities to demonstrate these important quality of life in additional training.

Blister and maintenance of the feet

Blister is actually caused by friction and overheating. A small piece of skin generates more and more heat due to friction, and finally a small bubble full of liquid acts as a seal protector on the wounded area. Just like all injuries, prevention is better than cure. Once you feel that there is a place that is getting hotter, usually change your pair of socks immediately on your feet or at the ankle joint (you should put one or two pairs of spare socks in the easy-to-reach position of the rucksack). In addition, modern mountaineering suppliers offer a range of ointments that will control well when the blisters begin. Once any signs of blisters are forming, use these drugs immediately.

Unfortunately, even with the best preventive measures and current methods of handling, there is still the possibility of blisters in the severity of the selection process. The basic way to deal with blisters is to stick it with a piece of plaster and leave it alone. The appearance of blisters has a certain purpose. They provide a gas-tight bubble for the injured area and prevent us from being infected. Once these blisters are broken, dust and bacteria can enter the injured area and the blisters become pus. Selecting often results in a large number of blisters, which begin to weaken the flexibility of the foot. In this case, they need to be torn apart or cut open to resume exercise.

To cut open the blisters, you must take a sterilized needle, (the method of sterilization is to dip into the alcohol, boil it in boiled water for 10 minutes, or put it on the flame for a while, even if you use an advance Wrap the medical needle.) Puncture it at the bottom point of the blisters. Then use a bandage to gently squeeze out the liquid inside. Don't tear down your skin. Then stick it to the wound with a sticky adhesive plaster, and then it will be fine.

Blisters are not the only problem that attacks your feet in the selection. The other is swollen feet. At the end of each tiring day, you will find that sometimes the pressure on your feet has swollen them to a worrying degree. You don't know what to do when you walk. But at night, you can use a cloth soaked in cold water for a while to reduce the swelling and then keep your feet higher than your head when you sleep. This will reduce the blood flow to the feet and ankles and inhibit further swelling.

Sprained ankle treatment. A) Let the patient lie down, lift the ankle up beyond the height of the head (this can reduce the blood flow in the leg, which is the reason for the swelling); B) Use a piece of soaked in cold water or Cover the ankle with a cloth wrapped in snow - continue to hold this position for 15 minutes; C) tightly wrap the ankle with a bandage (but not to the extent that the toenail is white), and continue to stay in the ground during the recovery phase .
